CXMT Mass-Produces World's First LPDDR6 – Xiaomi 18 Fold Debuts Domestic High-End Memory

Release date:2026-09-01 Number of clicks:147

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has achieved a milestone in the memory industry by mass-producing LPDDR6 DRAM, marking the world's first commercial adoption of the latest low-power memory standard. The chip debuts in the Xiaomi 18 Fold flagship foldable smartphone, making CXMT the first supplier to deliver next-generation LPDDR memory ahead of global rivals.

LPDDR6, standardised by JEDEC in July 2024, is designed for high-bandwidth terminals such as AI smartphones and on-device large-model inferencing. CXMT's implementation delivers a peak data rate of 12800 Mbps and supports up to 16 GB per chip, a significant leap over LPDDR5X.

Architecturally, LPDDR6 moves from dual 32-bit sub-channels to four 24-bit sub-channels, boosting parallel data processing and reducing latency. The chip also introduces new low-power mechanisms that cut consumption in idle states, balancing performance with energy efficiency.

In real-world usage, CXMT's LPDDR6 runs at a sustained 10667 Mbps, matching the peak bandwidth of LPDDR5X – delivering roughly 20% higher bandwidth in typical workloads. For edge AI applications, where memory bandwidth is often a bottleneck, this directly translates to smoother LLM inference and faster multitasking.

Beyond foldables, CXMT targets the new memory chips at high-end tablets, automotive smart cockpits, edge compute nodes, and small-scale AI data centers, broadening its addressable market.

ICgoodFind Takeaway:
CXMT’s LPDDR6 debut isn’t just a spec win – it's a sign that China’s memory industry is ready to lead in next-gen low-power DRAM. A genuine first-to-market achievement.
